    Thursday 9 November in Dubai, in the presence of President Emmanuel Macron and the Emir of Dubai, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA), signed a joint declaration of interest on tackling climate change.

It is in this context that CNES took part today in the ‘Climate needs Space’ international symposium in Toulouse, which brought together space agencies and space industry representatives.

  15. European MetOp-SG weather satellites: CNES and Eumetsat sign agreement on new-generation IASI-NG instruments

    Today at CNES’s Head Office in Paris, the agency’s President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Alain Ratier, Director General of Eumetsat, signed a cooperation agreement to develop a new generation of Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometers (IASI-NG) to be flown starting in 2021 on the three MetOp-SG A weather satellites of Eumetsat’s Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG).

  16. COP21 gets underway- CNES at the core of the space agenda

    At the COP21 climate conference opening today in Paris, 196 delegations will be working towards a historic agreement. For CNES, which is spearheading the space agenda of the conference, this marks the end of an odyssey started in 1992 with the launch of the TOPEX/Poseidon oceanography mission that has gathered pace this year through strong commitments and agreements secured with the world’s space agencies to combat climate change.

    In Gabon’s pavilion at the COP21 climate conference, in the presence of Emmanuel Issoze Ngondet, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign and French-speaking Affairs and Regional Integration, and Flore Mistoul Yame, Minister for the Protection of the Environment and Forest and Maritime Ressources, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Tanguy Gahouma Bekale, Director General of AGEOS, the Gabonese space agency, signed a framework agreement at Le Bourget to step up space cooperation between France and Gabon.

  19. Nature international journal publishes article on climate co-written by CNES grantee student

    An article by six young scientists, among them CNES grantee student Amaury Dehecq, has been published in the prestigious international science journal Nature. The article reveals that despite a spectacular increase in ice sheet meltwater, ice flow along land-terminating margins of the Greenland Ice Sheet has slowed.

    Monday 5 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall delivered his New Year wishes to members of the French and international press in the Salle de l’Espace at Paris Les Halles. This traditional gathering provided the opportunity to review a year of historic successes for CNES and to present the agency’s strategy and challenges for 2015, a year in which the focus will be on climate in the lead-up to the COP 21 global climate summit in Paris in December.
