CNES, the French space agency, has this year extended the computing power of its Data Processing Centre and boosted the performance of its storage system.

From 2014, Europe's GAIA satellite will gather billions of items of observational data on stars and other celestial objects in our galaxy. But are the data processing centres ready and able to handle such huge volumes of information on a daily basis? To find out, a dress rehearsal was held in early September.

France-Germany space cooperation- Pascale Ehrenfreund, Chair of DLR’s Executive Board, visits Toulouse Space Centre

Friday 23 November, Pascale Ehrenfreund, Chair of the Executive Board of the German space agency DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt), was welcomed at the Toulouse Space Centre (CST) by CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, Chief Operating Officer Lionel Suchet and CST Director Frédéric Pradeilles. This visit reflects DLR’s interest in the work being done at the CST, CNES’s field centre in the Occitanie region where 72% of its employees are located.

For its 350th session, CNES’s Board of Directors met at the agency’s Toulouse Space Centre (CST) to see the most recent advances in France’s space programme. Among the items on the agenda, special attention was given to disruptive technologies and development of new applications.

Friday 3 July, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall welcomed Alain Fuchs, President of CNRS, the French national scientific research agency, to the Toulouse Space Centre (CST), one of CNES’s four centres of excellence. The two agency heads and their delegations discussed a broad spectrum of topics, notably joint space missions, and the CNRS delegation was given a tour of the facility.
