The CoRoT satellite identified 10 new exoplanets by transit, then confirmed by ground observations. Seven of them are "hot Jupiters", sometimes with unusual characteristics, and the three left have smaller masses: one slightly smaller than Saturn and two Neptune-like exoplanets orbiting around the same star. Those discoveries were announced during the second CoRoT Symposium, in June 14th-17th, 2011 in Marseille, France.

  2. COROT discovers its first exoplanet!

    Date de publication:

    26 Décembre 2006

It’s called CoRoT-Exo-1b, spans a diameter of between 200,000 and 250,000 km and completes an orbit of its parent star in just 1½ days. But for the engineers and scientists involved in the COROT project, it is much more than that, providing spectacular proof that the satellite they spent years developing is operating like clockwork and is now set to go on to even greater things.
