  1. ANGELS, France's first industrial nanosatellite, extends the scope of space IoT

    Five times more powerful and 10 times smaller than its predecessors, ANGELS has been designed to address the current challenges of New Space: miniaturization, scaled-up performance and very low consumption. This technological wonder is opening up its services to current users and offering IoT players premium access to this new connectivity. ANGELS gives a first taste of the opportunities provided by Kinéis, the first constellation of European nanosatellites dedicated to IoT. Carrying a state-of-the-art ARGOS instrument, ANGELS is the operationnal proof of the success of the French nanosatellite sector, supported by CNES and leading manufacturers such as Thales Alenia Space, HEMERIA and Syrlinks.

  4. “Inventing the future of space” CNES’s signature theme for the 52nd International Paris Air Show

    Ahead of the 52nd International Paris Air Show that will be opening its doors Monday 19 June at Le Bourget, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall gave a conference for the national and international press today. He took the opportunity to address French space policy issues and present the new features that CNES will be showcasing at Le Bourget, revolving around the agency’s signature theme of “Inventing the Future of Space”, in a futuristic pavilion where digital technologies will be centre stage.

  5. France-Indonesia space cooperation. CNES and LAPAN sign framework agreement

    Tuesday 28 February, in the presence of Jean-Marc Ayrault, France’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development, and his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and LAPAN Chairman Thomas Djamaluddin signed a framework cooperation agreement in Jakarta ahead of President François Hollande’s official visit to Indonesia in March.

  6. CNES fetes 30th anniversary of its subsidiary CLS in Toulouse

    CNES’s subsidiary CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites), the satellite operator and world-leading supplier of satellite-based Earth-observation products and services, yesterday celebrated its 30th anniversary at its facility in Ramonville outside Toulouse. Having nurtured the company since its inception, the agency was also there to mark this event.

  7. Sea elephant oceanographers: a 10-year success story

    For the last 10 years, more than 200 elephant seals have been patrolling the southern seas wearing some strange headgear: an Argos transmitter instrumented with temperature, salinity and pressure sensors. The data these sensors acquire are fed in near-real time into the Mercator operational oceanography model and also tell us more about the animals' ecology.

    Formed in 1986 by CNES and Ifremer1, the French institute of marine research and exploration, CLS turned 25 today. Its Argos transmitters and satellite systems are used by scientists and governments the world over to explore and continuously monitor the planet’s oceans.
