  2. France-Vietnam space cooperation- VAST visits CNES head office

    Monday 27 May 2019, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met with Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) at the CNES head office in Paris, in the presence of Pham Anh Tuan, Director of the Vietnam National Space Center (VNSC), and Bui Trong Tuyen, Director of the Space Technology Institute (STI). It was an opportunity for the two Presidents to review the current status of France-Vietnam space cooperation and to discuss the next steps regarding Earth observation, the Space Climate Observatory (SCO) and space applications.

  3. France-UAE space cooperation- CNES and UAESA at 11th session of Strategic Dialogue

    Tuesday 16 April, the France-United Arab Emirates Strategic Dialogue convened for its 11th session in Paris. On this occasion, CNES and the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) reviewed ongoing and future cooperation projects, noting the rapid development of bilateral space relations between the two nations and in particular their joint hyperspectral Earth-observation mission, actions to nurture space expertise in the UAE and the Space Climate Observatory (SCO).

  4. France-China space cooperation- France guest of honour at China Space Day- CNES at commemorations marking anniversary of the launch of China’s first satellite

    Wednesday 24 April, CNES Chief Operating Officer Lionel Suchet was at the opening ceremony of China Space Day in Changsha, China, alongside Zhang Kejian, Administrator of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), and Xu Dazhe, Governor of Hunan Province. For this national event, CNSA invited France as guest of honour. In his address during the opening plenary, Lionel Suchet underlined that 2019 marks a key milestone for space cooperation between France and China in the four strategic domains of exploration, oceanography, astrophysics and space medicine.

  5. France-India space cooperation- CNES and ISRO sign agreement to establish maritime surveillance centre in India

    Wednesday 6 March in Bangalore, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Sivan K, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), signed an agreement to implement the short-term plan for the French-Indian programme to develop a maritime surveillance system. This signature follows on from the broader agreement signed last March during President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to India.

  6. France-Australia space cooperation- Climate, Innovation and Exploration: CNES signs three partnership agreements

    Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 February in Canberra, France and Australia held ministerial-level meetings on science and innovation in the presence of France’s Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation Frédérique Vidal and the heads of the French national scientific research centre CNRS, the French national institute for health and medical research INSERM, the French national research agency ANR and CNES, paving the way for future research cooperation between the two nations. On the sidelines of these meetings and accompanied by Frédérique Vidal, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall signed three partnership agreements in the fields of climate change, innovation and human spaceflight with Australia’s top research organizations. These agreements follow on from the signature in 2018 of a strategic partnership accord between CNES and the Australian Space Agency (ASA) that made France the newly formed agency’s first international partner.

  7. France-Russia space cooperation- GIFAS French-Russian seminar highlights foundational CNES-Roscosmos relationship

    Wednesday 30 January, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall spoke at the French-Russian seminar organized by GIFAS, the French aerospace industries association, at the Espace Hamelin in Paris, where he kicked off the round table session on ‘The stakes of French-Russian space cooperation’ in the presence of Oleg Frolov, Deputy Director General of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, and Nicolas Chamussy, Chair of GIFAS’s Space Commission. This seminar comes under the umbrella of the Russian space industry’s mission in France.

    Monday 11 February, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall took part in the World Government Summit in Dubai, where he met Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Director General of the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA), and Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC). Discussions focused on current and future collaborations, in particular the joint hyperspectral Earth-observation mission that CNES and UAESA are working on together, experiments for forthcoming Emirati spaceflights and projects in the field of space exploration and robotics.

  10. France-China space cooperation- Preparatory meeting of the French-Chinese joint science and technology committee

    Monday 10 December in Beijing, in the presence of Bernard Larrouturou, the French government’s Director General of Research and Innovation, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall addressed the preparatory meeting of the French-Chinese joint science and technology committee, where he gave a presentation on space cooperation between the two nations. At this day-long session, he also had the opportunity to talk with Wang Zhigang, China’s Minister for Science and Technology, Zhang Kejian, Administrator of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), and Wang Zhenyu, Head of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

    Tuesday 13 November, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall spoke at a conference held at the Prague Congress Centre to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Czech Republic’s membership of the European Space Agency (ESA), in the presence of Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Dan Ťok, Minister for Transport, and Johann-Dietrich Wörner, Director General of ESA. He pointed to the Czech Republic’s remarkable accomplishments in space and its successful integration in ESA. At a roundtable session on international space cooperation, he also underlined the partnership agreement signed with France, which further strengthens the bilateral actions by the two countries.

  12. Launch of French-Chinese CFOSat satellite- CNES and CNRS join forces to study climate change in the world’s oceans

    The French-Chinese CFOSat satellite will be launched on Monday 29 October atop a Chinese Long March 2C vehicle from the Jiuquan launch base in Inner Mongolia. This science mission to study ocean surface winds and waves is the first joint project pursued under French-Chinese space cooperation. Developed by CNES and the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the satellite will carry two radar instruments: SWIM (Surface Waves Investigation and Monitoring), developed by France, which will survey the length, height and direction of waves; and SCAT (wind SCATterometer), developed by China, which will measure the strength and direction of winds. The two instruments will enable measurements of winds and waves to be acquired simultaneously for the first time. CFOSat will thus characterize the dynamics of waves and how they interact with surface winds more comprehensively than ever before.

  13. France-Germany space cooperation- CNES and DLR step up partnership at ILA air show

    At the ILA air show taking place from 25 to 29 April in Berlin, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Pascale Ehrenfreund, Chair of the Executive Board of the German space agency DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt), signed a letter of intent on technology and disruptive innovation in space to step up the two nations’ joint efforts in these areas, in line with the policy directions outlined by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

  14. France-Chile space cooperation CNES at FIDAE and LARS

    Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 March, CNES was at the FIDAE aerospace show (Feria Internacional del Aire y del Espacio) in Santiago, Chile, where the agency’s President, Jean-Yves Le Gall, spoke on the theme of “Space as a Tool for International Cooperation” and took part in the opening ceremony of the Latin American Remote Sensing Week (LARS), this year focused on “Observing the Planet”. During his stay, he also met Andrés Gomes-Lobo, Chile’s Minister of Transport and Telecommunications.
