  1. Vega successfully orbits VENuS and OPTSAT-3000 satellites on its tenth flight CNES’s four centres key to “making our planet great again”

    Tuesday 1 August, Vega accomplished a flawless launch from Europe’s spaceport at the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), orbiting the VENuU and OPTSAT-3000 satellites. The launch, conducted on behalf of CNES and the Israel Space Agency (ISA), and on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Defence, was the eighth this year from the CSG and marks the tenth flight of Vega, orbiting its seventh Earth-observing satellite.

    Mardi 1er août, Vega, lancé au Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG), port spatial de l’Europe, a parfaitement réussi sa mission en mettant en orbite les satellites Venus et OPTSAT-3000. Ce lancement, effectué d’une part, pour le compte du CNES et de l’ISA (Israel Space Agency) et d’autre part, pour celui du Ministère de la défense italien, était le huitième lancement de 2017 au CSG et le 10ème lancement de Vega, qui réalise ainsi sa septième mission au profit de l’observation de la Terre.

  6. CNES ends 2019 with final flourish as ANGELS and EyeSat are sent into orbit

    The two satellites have departed Earth from the Guiana Space Centre atop a Soyuz launcher and are now operating over our heads. ANGELS, built by Hemeria with support from CNES, is the first French commercial nanosatellite to enter service, and EyeSat was developed through CNES’s JANUS1 student cubesat project.

    Tuesday 18 February, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Director of Innovation, Applications and Science Gilles Rabin were in Marseille at the invitation of Renaud Muselier, President of the South France (Sud) Regional Council and President of the French Regions association, and Bernard Kleynhoff, Chair of the Economy, Industry, Innovation, New Technologies and Digital Committee and South France Regional Councillor, to meet the region’s industry and research players. This gathering provided the opportunity to review the challenges facing the space sector and the ConnectByCnes structure conceived to fuel economic, environmental and social development.

    Thursday 20 February, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall attended the screening of Jacques Blamont, action the sister of dreams, a film profile by Rina Sherman, also known as k éditeur, at the invitation of Laëtitia Moreau, President of SCAM, the multimedia authors society, and the author. Professor Jacques Blamont is a member of the French Academy of Science and Adviser to the CNES President.

  12. France-United States space cooperation- CNES, NASA and the JPL gather at the Toulouse Space Centre to celebrate 25 years of altimetry

    High-precision satellite altimetry to improve our understanding of the oceans and their role in climate change dates back to 1992. For it was then that the TOPEX/Poseidon satellite was launched—the result of close cooperation between CNES and NASA. In order to mark this 25th anniversary, on 7 September 2017 the CNES welcomed a large delegation from NASA and the JPL to the Toulouse Space Centre in France.

  13. CNES’s ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications renewed

    CNES’s Management System was audited in October with excellent results at its four centres of excellence in Paris Les Halles, Paris Daumesnil, Toulouse and Kourou. After its audit, certifying body AFNOR Certification confirmed the renewal of the agency’s ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental management certifications.

  17. CNES Science Programmes Committee meets First for new 2019-2024 team

    Tuesday 1 October, CNES’s Science Programmes Committee (CPS) met at the agency’s Head Office in Paris Les Halles. The CPS advises the CNES Board of Directors on matters relating to space science research and helps it to shape the agency’s science priorities. Today’s meeting was the first since the appointment in March of the new committee members for 2019-2024 and of its new Chair, Gilles Bergametti.

  19. EntrySat all set to go into orbit First CubeSat dedicated to studying atmospheric re-entry of orbital debris

    The ISAE-SUPAERO aeronautics and space institute, supported by CNES’s JANUS student nanosatellite programme and in partnership with the French national aerospace research lab ONERA, has designed EntrySat, the first CubeSat1 dedicated to studying atmospheric re-entry of orbital debris. Launched aboard a Cygnus cargo vehicle to the International Space Station (ISS) by an Antares NG-11 vehicle on 17 April from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia, the satellite will be released into orbit on 3 July.

  20. CNES and ESA to take part in Orange Silicon Valley’s Fab Force program

    CNES and ESA officially announce their partnership with Orange Silicon Valley, through which they will be taking part in its Fab Force alliance. The aim of this one-year partnership is to forge a closer relationship between the two agencies and the Silicon Valley ecosystem, foster new ties in this region, promote European industry and expertise in the United States and prime the pipeline of talent between the two continents.
