      Tuesday 30 June, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and Antoine Petit, Chairman & CEO of CNRS, the French national scientific research centre, gave a joint briefing about NASA’s Mars 2020 mission that will be taking the French-U.S. SuperCam instrument on its Perseverance rover to the red planet. The mission is set to launch atop an Atlas V from Cape Canaveral in Florida between 22 July and 11 August.

      Wednesday 3 June, at the 12th session of the Strategic Dialogue between France and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held by videoconference due to the continuing COVID-19 health crisis, CNES and the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA) reviewed their progress in space cooperation. The Strategic Dialogue provides for an annual high-level meeting to promote and advance cooperation between the two nations. A dedicated Space sub-committee, co-chaired by CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and UAESA Director General Mohammed Al Ahbabi, governs space cooperation between France and the UAE.

    16. New simulated weightlessness study- CNES and MEDES further understanding of the physiological effects of microgravity

      Right now and until 29 March 2019, 20 volunteers are taking part in a new study into simulated weightlessness using the innovative method of dry immersion. Led by CNES and conducted at its MEDES space clinic, based at Rangueil Hospital in Toulouse, the study aims to simulate the effects of weightlessness on the human body. It will, in particular, enable us to further our understanding of specific physiological mechanisms and thereby improve conditions for astronauts during manned spaceflights.

    19. ExoMars 2016: TGO enters Martian orbit

      The ExoMars 2016 mission’s Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) was successfully captured into Martian orbit Wednesday 19 October. However, the landing of Schiaparelli had still not been confirmed at the end of our video broadcast of the event. The mission’s engineers were set to spend the night poring over data acquired by various satellites orbiting Mars to track down the tiny lander.
