      Monday 15 January in Marcy l’Étoile (near Lyon), Proxima mission astronaut Thomas Pesquet detailed, during a conference, lessons learned from the Aquapad experiment he performed on the International Space Station (ISS). Developed jointly by CNES and bioMérieux, a world leader in in vitro diagnostics, Aquapad is an innovative device for conducting microbiological diagnostics on a space crew’s drinking water. On this occasion, bioMérieux’s Chairman & CEO Alexandre Mérieux and Gilles Rabin, CNES’s Director of Innovation, Applications and Science, signed a joint statement of interest with a view to pursuing this partnership.

      The 2017 edition of C’Space, the annual student space event organized by CNES and non-profit association Planète Sciences, is taking place at the Camp de Ger military base of the 1st Parachute Hussard airborne cavalry regiment near Tarbes in Southwest France, from 15 to 22 July. On Thursday 20 July, the young participants will be given the special opportunity to meet space professionals.

    17. Fleet signs on-going collaboration with French Space Agency CNES

      ADELAIDE: 25 September, 2017 — Australian space startup, Fleet, and the French space agency, CNES, today announced that they will enter into a strategic collaboration whereby CNES will track and support Fleet’s first nanosatellites, once launched. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organisations has been signed today on the opening day of this year’s International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Adelaide. The signing happened in front of South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill.

      CNES and Roscosmos have signed an agreement concerning the PHEBUS ultraviolet spectrometer designed to study Mercury’s exosphere as part of the science payload on the Mercury Planetary Orbiter (MPO) for the European Space Agency’s BepiColombo mission.

    19. 52nd International Paris Air Show President Macron visits CNES Pavilion

      At the opening of the 52nd International Paris Air Show, being held from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 June at Le Bourget, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, accompanied by Thomas Pesquet, welcomed President Emmanuel Macron to the CNES Pavilion for a tour of the innovation (Ariane 6), climate (MERLIN) and exploration (Mars) exhibits on display. The futuristic pavilion is showcasing programmes and technologies the agency is developing to “invent the future of space”.

    20. 10-ton Ariane 5 all ready to go

      Since 9 August, CNES has been feverishly preparing for the forthcoming launch of Ariane 5 ECA, an uprated version of Ariane 5 offering greater lift capacity. After the failure of the launcher’s first flight in 2002, engineers embarked on a meticulous review. The launcher has now successfully completed ground qualification, but CNES’s teams are not dropping their guard and will be working flat out right up to the lift-off.
